Born in Brotas de Macaúbas, Bahia, with an extensive academic output, involved in debates on politics and education, and a defender of an independent intellectual class engaged in the transformation of society, Milton Santos was one of the key figures responsible for renewing and transforming Brazilian geographical thought, understanding the field not only as a technical discipline but also as a theoretical reflection, rescuing, updating, and reformulating fundamental concepts.
